About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the Maretta area of Ghemme, where the vines are cultivated using an environmentally friendly approach. The soils are acidic alluvial clay.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into crates in mid-September. They are gently pressed, and the must undergoes low-temperature alcoholic fermentation to preserve its fruity notes.
Ageing
The wine rests for five months in stainless-steel tanks and a further month in bottle.
Label / history
Erbaluce changes colour as it ripens in sunlight, developing from bright yellow to a deeper, richer shade. The variety was first mentioned in 1600 and was known in ancient times as Alba Lux, Romance-language words meaning “light of dawn.” Colline Novaresi is one of three DOC areas in which Erbaluce is grown, but the variety’s name is not permitted on the label; this led to the name “Erbavoglio.”
