About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from four sites in parts of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi particularly well suited to Verdicchio. The original site is the Casal di Serra vineyard in Montecarotto; fruit from three further sites was added over the years. The vineyards lie on clay-soiled hillsides at 200–350 m above sea level. The vines are 19 years old on average. The mix of terroirs gives the wine its full, rich and vibrant character.
Vinification
The fully ripe grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Most of the wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine ages on the lees in steel tanks for 5 months.
Serving and pairing
A medium-sized, rounded glass is recommended, as it helps bring out the full complexity of the aromatic bouquet.
Label / history
"Casal di Serra" was first produced in 1983, originally from the grapes of the vineyard of the same name in Montecarotto.
About the estate
Umani Ronchi dates from 1950, when Gino Umani Ronchi bought a large piece of land in the low hills of Marche, near Cupramontana. It now belongs to the Bernetti family, who own six vineyards covering 100 hectares in the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico and Rosso Conero areas and lease around 40 further hectares.
