About this wine
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand from late September to the first ten days of October. After destemming, they are gently pressed and macerated in stainless-steel tanks for 10–12 days at 26–28 °C. Malolactic fermentation follows immediately after alcoholic fermentation.
Ageing
Half of the wine ages in 50–80 hL oak casks, while the remainder ages in barriques that are three to four years old. After a total of 12 months in oak, the two portions are blended, followed by several more months of bottle ageing.
Label / history
The wine was first made in 1993. Its name, Jorio, comes from the main character in The Daughter of Jorio, a tragedy by the Abruzzo poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. The owners associated the work’s dedication to the land and people of Abruzzo, family and ancestry with the wine.
