About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Primitivo grapes come from organic vineyards in Salento, in the province of Taranto.
Vinification
Maceration takes place at a controlled temperature of 24–26 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine is aged in French oak barrels, then rests further in bottle.
Tasting profile
Elegant, well balanced and authentic. The aroma is intense and inviting, with juicy berries and spicy hints of nutmeg, licorice, chocolate and vanilla. The palate is well structured and balanced, leading to a long finish with notes of fruit and coconut.
Serving and pairing
Pairs especially well with Italian dishes, particularly pasta, and with fresh cheeses.
Label / history
"12 e Mezzo" means "Twelve and a Half", after the alcohol content shared by all eight wines in the collection. The collection reflects Varvaglione's philosophy of growing traditional local Puglian grape varieties and using modern winemaking methods to turn them into wine.
