About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Velenosi’s own vineyards in the municipalities of Offida and Castel di Lama, at 200–250 m above sea level. The soils are predominantly clay with some limestone. Planting density is 5,000 vines/ha, and average yields do not exceed 1.5 kg per vine.
Grapes
Montepulciano accounts for 85% of the blend; Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot together make up the remaining 15%.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-October, either early in the morning or during the afternoon. They are collected in small crates, kept cool before transport, then carefully sorted and destemmed at the winery. After pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Skin maceration lasts 28 days, with daily mixing of the must.
Ageing
After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is racked and matured for 18–24 months in new French oak barrels. The winery team selected the barrels from a range of handcrafted options.
Label / history
The wine was first released in 1998.
