About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Nerello Mascalese grows in Contrada Crasa in two vineyards on either side of the winery. Half comes from Vigna Jules, a vineyard of 90-year-old bush vines acquired in 2010 and farmed biodynamically for the three years preceding the source description. The remainder comes from an amphitheatre of terraces behind the winery, planted between 2013 and 2015 with own-rooted vines propagated by massal selection.
Grapes
Nerello Mascalese from the two vineyards contributes equal shares. Small amounts of Nerello Cappuccio, Alicante and native white grape varieties were planted among the terraced vines in keeping with regional tradition.
Vinification
After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts. The wine is bottled without filtration.
Ageing
The wine rests in oak barrels for at least six months.
Label / history
The name “CR” derives from Contrada Crasa.
