About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo comes from the Chronicon Vineyard in the Casauria Valley. Medium-textured soils tending toward clay face west. The valley benefits from constant year-round ventilation and good day-to-night temperature variation. Vines are trained using pergola and espalier systems, with harvest at the end of September.

Grapes

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.

Vinification

The grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing submerged-cap maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation for approximately 15 days.

Ageing

The wine matures in oak vats for 6–9 months.

Technical data

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC. Alcohol: 13% vol., with possible variation between vintages. Available formats: 0.375 L, 0.75 L and 1.5 L. Recommended glass: balloon.

Tasting profile

Brilliant red with iridescent violet reflections and notable visual consistency. The fine, complex bouquet opens with violet, cherry and balsamic nuances, followed by white pepper, vanilla and tertiary notes of undergrowth. Full-bodied on the palate, with exceptionally fine-grained tannins providing structure and balance.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 15–17°C. Pair with risotto, rich pasta dishes and preparations featuring bold, well-seasoned sauces.

Label / history

The Chronicon line and its labels take inspiration from the Chronicon Casauriense, a collection of medieval chronicles concerning the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria. Compiled by the monk Giovanni di Berardo and distinguished by fine illustrations and pen drawings, the manuscript is preserved in the National Library in Paris.
