Cantine che producono Montello Rosso
Montello Rosso in breve
They are made of hard conglomerate under red, lime-free, acidic soils of marly clay and sand, moderately deep and good at holding water. The rock is cracked vertically, so water sinks and runs underground, and on the Montello it has opened more than 2,000 dolines. The Castelcucco, Cornuda and Monfumo communes lie wholly inside the zone; Asolo, Crocetta del Montello, Fonte and others in part.
Montello Rosso — or simply Montello — must be 40 to 70 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, with 30 to 60 per cent Merlot, Cabernet Franc or Carmenère, and up to 15 per cent other local reds; a Superiore is also made. Yields stop at ten tonnes a hectare and new vineyards need at least 3,500 vines. The DOCG was created in 2011.
