Vineyard and terroir
The Nerello Mascalese grows in a high-altitude vineyard in the Santo Spirito area, at 750 metres above sea level. The vines are planted on terraces supported by ancient dry-stone walls. The soil is deep and porous, exceptionally rich in minerals, with the volcanic ash and sand typical of the area. This terroir gives the wine its purity and mineral touch.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand in mid-October, at optimal ripeness. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation both take place in stainless steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine ages for 13 months in new French barriques, which give it harmony, roundness and refined nuances.
Tasting profile
Elegant and well balanced, combining delicacy with noticeable power. The producer describes it as a model of refinement, and critics see echoes of "southern Barolo" in its character. Purity and a mineral touch mark the palate.
