Vineyard and terroir

The 1 ha vineyard is situated in Castelletto, Monforte d’Alba, at 330–350 m above sea level, with a north-easterly exposure. The young, shallow, calcareous soil originated from marine sediments of the Serravallian-period Lequio formation, approximately 12 million years old. It includes silt and clay and is rich in sand. The vines are 30 years old.

Grapes

100% Barbera.

Vinification

Harvesting is by hand from late September to early October. The wine ferments on the skins in rotary fermenters for approximately 5–6 days at a controlled temperature of 25–30°C.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 10 months in 50 hl stainless-steel tanks, where the wine remains until bottling.

Tasting profile

Intense ruby red. The warm, enveloping nose shows pronounced red-fruit and floral notes. The palate is fruity, fresh and balanced, bringing taste, aroma and acidity into equilibrium.

Serving and pairing

Pair with starters, first courses, soups or pizza.
