Vineyard and terroir
The 0.5 ha vineyard lies in Castelletto, Monforte d’Alba, with a north-easterly exposure. The technical sheet places it at 330 m above sea level. Its young, shallow, calcareous soil comes from marine sediments of the Serravallian-period Lequio formation, dating to approximately 12 million years ago. The soil contains silt and clay and is rich in sand. The vines are 25 years old.
Grapes
50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in early October. Fermentation and maceration take place on the skins in temperature-controlled rotary fermenters at 25–30°C for approximately 6–7 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in used French oak barriques.
Tasting profile
Ruby to purple-red in colour. The rich, persistent nose combines red fruit, spices and tobacco. The palate is balanced and mouth-filling, with long, sweet tannins.
Serving and pairing
Pair with red meat or mature cheeses.
