Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Produced in Contrada Villagrande at Milo, at 700 m with south-eastern exposure. The Guyot-trained vineyard has 7,000 vines per hectare and yields 40 hl/ha.
Grapes
80% Nerello Mascalese, with a combined 20% Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mantellato.
Ageing
The wine spends 24 months in 500 L chestnut barrels, followed by one year in bottle. The chestnut comes from the estate’s own forest.
Tasting profile
Bright, fluid ruby red. Violet and woodland-fruit aromas develop into balsamic, aromatic-herb and spice notes during chestnut ageing. The palate is lively yet refined, with elegant balance, persistent minerality and well-integrated wood tannins. The long finish recalls red fruit, aromatic herbs and spices.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18 °C. Pair with succulent meat dishes requiring long cooking, Nebrodi Black Pig or other Nebrodi cured meats, and sweet-and-sour preparations. The wine can develop for up to 20 years from the vintage.
Vintage notes
Produced only in outstanding vintages, when the growing conditions provide the balance required for the wine.
