Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
100% Barbera from various, predominantly young vineyards planted at an average density of 5,000 vines per hectare. The first grapes used for the wine grew in grandmother Caterina’s vineyard.
Vinification
The must remains on the skins for 10 days. The wine then matures for at least four months in stainless steel, with the prise de mousse taking place in an autoclave.
Ageing
After its time in steel and secondary fermentation in autoclave, La Monella receives two months of bottle ageing.
Tasting profile
Bright violet-ruby red with lively foam and a gentle sparkle. The nose is fragrant, exuberant and vinous, with numerous red-fruit notes. The palate is exceptionally lively and very fresh, with good body, a soft texture and an irrepressibly cheerful character.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 8–12 °C during spring and summer and at 18 °C during autumn and winter. Available in 0.375, 0.75, 1.5, 3, 5 and 12-litre formats.
Label / history
La Monella marks the official beginning of Braida’s story. Giacomo Bologna’s father used chalk to write “La Monella” on the barrel containing his most exuberant Barbera. Its lively, straightforward style has remained unchanged.
