Vinification
For the 2008 cuvée, grapes from 29 vineyards were harvested during the final ten days of August. Alcoholic fermentation took place exclusively in small oak barrels made from selected wood seasoned for at least three years. The wine remained on its own lees in barrel for six months, during which malolactic fermentation was completed. Only the finest barrels among the 29 base wines were chosen for the final blend, which was transferred to the blending tank by gravity before bottling. No dosage liqueur was used.
Ageing
The wine aged slowly in bottle on the lees for more than seven years.
Tasting profile
Complex, rich and full, with a long-lasting character.
Label / history
Maurizio Zanella named the wine after his mother, Annamaria Clementi Zanella, founder of Ca’ del Bosco. She moved to Franciacorta in 1965 and settled in a large house surrounded by woodland; the winery began operating in 1968. In 2004, Decanter included Annamaria Clementi in its list of “100 Wines to Try Before You Die.”
