Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The selected fruit is grown in Adro at 250 m above sea level, on clay-limestone soils at the foot of Monte Alto.
Grapes
Selected Chardonnay and Pinot Nero grapes are used.
Vinification
Harvest begins in the second ten-day period of August and is carried out entirely by hand, without machinery. The grapes are sorted, destemmed and gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The first-press juice is separated from the more forceful second pressing; only the first fraction, chosen for its pH and acidity, is used.
Each vineyard is vinified separately, and the two varieties ferment separately in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 16–18 °C.
Ageing
After fermentation, the wines remain in the stainless-steel tanks throughout winter. They are blended in spring and bottled with sugar and yeast for a second fermentation in bottle, followed by six years on the lees.
Label / history
The Gatti family founded Ferghettina in the 1990s. After working for other Franciacorta wineries for many years, Roberto Gatti established the business in 1991 with the purchase of 4 ha in Erbusco. Roberto and his wife Andreina later came to own 120 ha across six municipalities with their children, Matteo, an oenology student, and Laura, an oenologist. The wines are made at the family’s new winery in Adro.
