Vineyard and terroir
The "Rossana" vineyard lies just outside Alba and has long been considered one of the finest historic sites for Dolcetto. Ceretto owns 8.65 hectares here. The soils are clay and limestone with pockets of sand. The vines, 20 years old, are planted at 280 metres above sea level on southeast-, south- and southwest-facing slopes.
Vinification
The must ferments in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
The young wine ages for 6 months in steel tanks and is periodically racked off the lees.
Tasting profile
Fruity in character, with good structure and well-balanced acidity.
Vintage notes
2019: A cold, wet spring in Piedmont slowed vine growth, and frequent rain raised the risk of disease, though it also replenished groundwater reserves much needed in summer. Hot, dry weather ran from June to August, when severe hail struck the vineyards. Warm days and cool nights lasted into September, allowing gradual phenolic ripeness while keeping freshness and acidity. A second severe hailstorm in September significantly reduced yields in some plots.
