Vineyard and terroir
The Monsordo-Bernardina estate lies in Alba, on the edge of the Barolo area. For technical reasons the site was not included within the protected Barolo zone. The vineyards surround the historic farmhouse. The soils contain clay (50%), silt (32%) and sand (11%), and the vines average 15 years of age.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation is spontaneous and takes place in stainless steel vats.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12–14 months in old oak barrels.
Tasting profile
A complex, long-lived wine with considerable ageing potential.
Vintage notes
The 2024 vintage has an ageing potential of 11 years.
Label / history
Ceretto began making wine in the 1930s, when Riccardo Ceretto moved to Alba. In the 1960s his sons Bruno and Marcello continued the work with a new philosophy, and were nicknamed "the Barolo Brothers" for promoting Barolo. The family, now in its third generation, owns nine estates producing around 700,000 bottles a year from more than 80 hectares of vineyards. Each estate has its own style and approach to production.
