Label / history
"Sante Rive" means "Holy Shores" and refers to the location of Cielo's vineyards. According to legend, the Adige fell in love with the green hills and decided to stay among them, but the goddess Diana disapproved and drove the river away. As a sign of its eternal love for Verona, the riverbed forms two S-shaped bends, like the S in "sposo" (groom) or "sposa" (bride).
Cielo e Terra was founded in 1908. Its name combines "terra" (earth) with the surname of its founders, the Cielo family. Under Pietro Cielo the company began expanding and improving production in 1930, and new vineyards were established in 1962. It is now run by the fourth-generation brothers Luca and Pierpaolo Cielo, owns around 300 ha and is one of the largest producers in Veneto. It belongs to Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici, with around 4,000 ha of vineyards, where most of its wines are produced. With the group's winemakers it takes part in a project to improve every stage of production and agriculture in the Berici Hills.
