Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a one-hectare vineyard in the Manzano hills of Cortona at 290 metres above sea level. Planted in 2006, it has 5,000 vines per hectare trained to cordon spur. The soil combines clay and sand.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the second half of September. Whole clusters ferment in wood following 15 days of maceration on the skins.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in barriques.
Technical data
Annual production comprises 2,500 standard bottles and 50 magnums. The first vintage was 2017. Toscana IGT.
Tasting profile
A lighter, crunchy style of Sangiovese with pronounced flavour and a high level of acidity. Cherry leads the aroma, accompanied by mixed berries.
Serving and pairing
Pair with ribollita, the traditional Florentine soup, or Indian curry dishes.
Vintage notes
The 2019 rating describes a linear, spicy wine with dried cherry, lemon rind, nutmeg and dried almond, medium body and freshness. The 2018 combines dried cherries and plums with orange peel and walnut, rounded tannins and a savoury finish. The 2017 shows dried red cherries and herbs, brighter orange-peel and lemon-meringue notes, medium body, inward-set tannins and polished acid-fruit balance.
