Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Per il Babbo is a limited-production selection from several vineyards outside the estate’s crus, principally Podere San Carlo and Poggio Scopeto. The fruit comes from vines aged 18, 49 and 74 years.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese. The 2024 yield was 65 quintals per hectare, with harvesting carried out by hand.
Vinification
Fermentation took place spontaneously in stainless steel, without temperature control or added yeast. Pump-overs were performed manually.
Ageing
The wine matured for 14 months, partly in stainless-steel and concrete vats and partly in 10 hl Slavonian oak casks.
Technical data
Vintage 2024. Alcohol: 13%. Total acidity: 5.98 g/L. Total dry extract: 29 g/L. Total sulfites: 93 mg/L. Production comprised 4,420 bottles of 750 ml and 100 magnums of 1.5 L. The wine is released on 20 March, Enzo Tiezzi’s birthday.
Tasting profile
The 2024 has a lighter, brighter color than the estate’s other Rosso di Montalcino and shows aromas of crisp red fruit. Vibrant acidity and freshness make it approachable for immediate drinking. Its finesse, delicacy and moderate alcohol evoke a more traditional style.
Label / history
Introduced with the 2021 vintage, this second Rosso di Montalcino was created in honor of Enzo Tiezzi—“Babbo Enzo”—for his work for the family, the territory and its wines. It also provided a home for selected fruit from newer vineyards that was not eligible for the estate’s cru wines.
