Vineyard and terroir
The hillside vineyards around Lake Kaltern face south-east and lie at 230–350 m. The soils contain high proportions of sand, pebbles and silt. The Schiava vines are trained on pergolas, are 20–50 years old and yield 80 hl/ha.

Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures for four months, partly in concrete and partly in stainless-steel tanks.
Technical data
Alcohol: 12.5% vol. Acidity: 4.8 g/L. Residual sugar: 2.8 g/L. Ageing potential: 2–3 years.
Tasting profile
Bright ruby red. The bouquet is strongly fruit-led and accented by delicate almond aromas. The palate is round, lively and fresh, with an easy-drinking character.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 13–15 °C. A companion for light meals and informal gatherings.
Label / history
Lake Kaltern is both a geographical and an identity reference: many of the vineyards lie around the lake, which—like the winery—takes its name from the village of Kaltern. The wine made from Schiava grown around the lake is likewise called Kalterersee.
