Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Farnetella vineyards in the commune of Sinalunga, within the Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG zone. The vines occupy a broad, well-exposed hill at 400–470 m. Layered sand-and-silt soils contain some clay and substantial rock and limestone, principally galestro. Planting density is approximately 5,400 vines per hectare; the vines are vertically trained and spur-cordon pruned.
Grapes
Predominantly Sangiovese with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Exact proportions are not specified.
Vinification
Quality-selected clusters are destemmed and pressed. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel for 12–15 days at 28–30°C, supported by programmed punch-downs and daily pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation occurs in steel.
Ageing
In March–April, 50% of the wine is transferred to medium-sized oak botti and once- or twice-used oak barriques. Maturation lasts 12–16 months, followed by bottling and a further 4–6 months of bottle ageing.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red with slight purple highlights. The aromatic profile centres on blueberry, anise and Mediterranean scrub, with earthy mineral nuances and restrained toasted oak. The palate is approachable, with relaxed tannins, fine acidity and firm structure. A long finish brings wild-cherry aromas and subtle vanilla.
