Vineyard and terroir
Motto Piane lies on Monte Calvarina in the municipality of Roncà, on clay-rich soil of volcanic origin. The current profile describes two hectares of Guyot-trained, 20-year-old vines planted at 5,000 vines per hectare. The technical sheet instead records 3.9 hectares at 250–300 m above sea level and an average vine age of 30 years. Its stated yield is 2,800 L/ha.
Grapes
100% Garganega, dried after harvest for approximately four to five weeks.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand into 6 kg crates. The current profile places harvest in the second week of October and drying in dedicated rooms for four to five weeks. The technical sheet places harvest from the second week of September and describes about one month of drying on mats. The current profile specifies fermentation and maturation in stainless steel and 30 hl oak barrels for 12 months. The technical sheet lists stainless-steel vats, tonneaux and 25 hl barrels.
Ageing
After 12 months in steel and oak, the wine spends another year in bottle before release. The technical sheet gives an ageing potential of 60 months.

Tasting profile
Yellow with intense straw reflections. The complex bouquet is led by yellow stone fruit, Golden Delicious apple, raisins and ripe apricot, with ginger, turmeric and citrus peel. The palate is broad and rounded, supported by firm savouriness, with sweet spices, medicinal herbs and a persistent dried-fruit finish. The technical sheet also describes peach, citrus, mint and sage, with citrus and exotic fruit beneath the dried-fruit character.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 12–14 °C. Pair with Venetian-style liver, Baccalà alla Vicentina, grilled shellfish, complex fish dishes, grilled lamb or goat, and mature hard cheeses.
