Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the highest part of the historic Cannubi vineyard in the municipality of Barolo. Its soils combine Tortonian and Helvetian formations originating in different geological eras, creating considerable complexity and richness. A high proportion of sand contributes intense aromas: initially fruit-driven, they become increasingly spicy with evolution. The vines were planted between 1967 and 1990.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The Riserva is made only in the finest vintages. Clusters ripening in the highest part of the vineyard are carefully selected, then undergo a slow fermentation lasting 25–30 days.

Ageing

The wine matures for 42 months in traditional Slavonian oak barrels. Further refinement continues before release until the sixth year following the harvest.

Technical data

Available in 750 mL bottles.

Tasting profile

The initially garnet-red colour develops orange reflections with age. Aromas of ripe fruit are joined by spice and tobacco. The tannins gradually soften and become rounder and more enveloping. Slow maturation builds complexity and gives the wine great longevity.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–17 °C.
