Vineyard and terroir
The wine brings together vineyards rooted in several terroirs, expressing the diversity of the Albese area. The vineyards are sustainably managed and certified organic. Aldo Vajra adopted organic farming in 1971, while still a university student. For almost fifty years, the soils have been nourished and protected through grassing and spontaneous cover crops. Vineyard work involves substantial manual labour, alongside continued monitoring and improvement of plant and animal biodiversity throughout the estate’s vineyards, fields and woods.
Grapes
100% Barbera.
Vinification
For the 2025 vintage, the vineyard parcels were vinified separately. Fermentation employed selected submerged caps, while prolonged, gentle macerations lasted for as long as 26 days. This measured approach is intended to retain the variety’s fragrance and aromatic purity while building complexity from the different terroirs.
Ageing
The 2025 wine matured for approximately three months in stainless steel and was bottled on 16 February 2026.

Tasting profile
The 2025 Barbera d’Alba has a bright purple colour. Its lively bouquet combines blackberry, plum, blueberry and violet, joined by nuances of fresh herbs and a delicate graphite accent that adds depth and complexity. The palate is juicy and vibrant, with layered black fruit supported by freshness and energy. A subtle herbal note leads into an elegant, mineral finish.
Vintage notes
The 2025 growing season delivered very low yields but grapes of outstanding quality. January was only moderately cold, and spring arrived early, signalled by primroses, almond and apricot blossoms, and the early development of Nebbiolo shoots. Abundant rain demanded careful vineyard protection while also replenishing water reserves ahead of a very warm June. Several hailstorms naturally reduced the crop. The estate’s harvest began on 19 August and continued through bright days with pronounced day-to-night temperature differences, helping preserve freshness and precision. Though small in quantity, the vintage produced radiant fruit of uncommon beauty.
