Vineyard and terroir
The 2024 wine draws on a mosaic of vineyards throughout the Langhe hills, spanning Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Clavesana, Farigliano, Sinio and Serralunga d’Alba.
Aldo Vajra began adopting organic farming practices in 1971 while still a university student. For almost 50 years, grassing and spontaneous cover crops have been used to nurture the vineyards and protect their soils. The vineyards are certified sustainable and organic. Vineyard work is highly manual, accompanied by research focused on monitoring and improving plant and animal biodiversity across the vineyards, fields and forests.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary by vintage. The latest published vintage, 2024, comprises 54% Nebbiolo, 31% Dolcetto, 6% Barbera, 2% Freisa, 2% Albarossa and a remaining 5% that includes Slarina and Chatus. The changing blend is conceived as an expressive introduction to Piemonte through its native red varieties.
Vinification
The varieties were harvested according to their individual ripening cycles between September 3 and October 26, 2024. The fruit was carefully picked and sorted. Each parcel fermented separately for approximately 15–18 days in vertical vats, with gentle punch-downs and pump-overs at temperatures below 30°C. Fermentation was followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation in stainless steel.
Ageing
Approximately six months, mainly in stainless steel.
Technical data
Langhe Denominazione di Origine Controllata. Bottled in 0.75 L format under either Stelvin screwcap or cork.
Tasting profile
Ruby red in color. The aromatic profile begins with crisp red fruit—cherry, redcurrant and wild strawberry—before developing notes of pink pepper, rosehip and dried thyme. Vibrant acidity and silky tannins shape a graceful, savory palate. Citrus zest and floral spice carry through the delicate finish. The result is an expressive, approachable and gastronomic red.
Serving and pairing
Designed as a versatile food-pairing wine and an accessible introduction to Piemonte’s native red varieties.
Vintage notes
The 2024 growing season produced wines characterized by fresh aromatics, moderate alcohol and ready drinkability. Winter and mountain snowfall arrived late. Budbreak was recorded on March 11 and was threatened by frost one month later. Abundant rain from May created prolonged fungal pressure and required intensive vineyard work. Temperatures eventually rose, making the season warm overall. A significant hailstorm struck the western slopes between La Morra and Novello in early August.
The broader harvest period began on August 30 and was repeatedly interrupted by rain. It was one of the most demanding seasons since 1972. Organic practices were maintained despite the pressure, yielding healthy fruit but reduced quantities.
