Vineyard and terroir
The Pinot Noir vineyard was planted in 1999 on the highest part of Bricco delle Viole, also called Bricco di Vergne, between Barolo and La Morra. The site lies at 497 metres above sea level, with views extending toward Alta Langa in the east and Monviso in the west. It was planted after permission to establish Nebbiolo at this elevation was denied.
Grapes
100% Pinot Noir, comprising both clonal and massal selections.
Label / history
The first bottled vintage was 2006. From 2006 through 2011, the wine carried the name Langhe Rosso PN Q497. The letter “Q” referred to quota, or elevation, and “497” identified the vineyard's altitude in metres. The wine was subsequently presented as Langhe DOC Pinot Nero within the Ampeloscopio Vajra range.
