Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from three selected plots within the Girlan cru at 500 m. The east- and west-facing vineyards cover a combined 1.2 ha. Their 20–25-year-old vines grow in poor, gravelly soils formed by morainic deposits over volcanic porphyry. The wine was developed through extensive research and numerous small-volume vinification trials.

Grapes

100% Pinot Noir.

Vinification

Fully ripe grapes are picked by hand in mid-September and transported in small containers. After destemming, the fruit enters stainless-steel tanks by gravity and undergoes alcoholic fermentation for 25 days. Malolactic fermentation follows.

Ageing

The wine matures for 20 months in barriques and a further 18 months in bottle.
