Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from Gschleier in Oltradige, one of Alto Adige’s best-known wine-growing areas. The vines are 80–110 years old and grow at 450 m on lime, clay and gravel soils over volcanic porphyry. The slope’s position and exposure provide abundant sunlight, contributing to the wine’s fullness and ageing capacity.
Grapes
100% Vernatsch.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into small containers to limit pressure and damage. After destemming, the must undergoes a slow, gravity-fed fermentation in stainless-steel tanks lasting 15–20 days. Malolactic fermentation follows.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in large wooden barrels and a further six months in bottle.
