Vineyard and terroir

VIGNA GANGER comes from the Ganger monopole in Mazon. The site was selected after a search begun in 2008, followed by several years of research and experimental micro-vinifications. It lies at 360–380 metres above sea level, faces southwest and has a gradient of 3–5%. Its distinctive microclimate combines with deep calcareous clay soils.

Grapes

Pinot Noir.

Vinification

Fully ripe grapes are picked by hand in mid-September and transported to the cellar in small containers. One fifth of the fruit is vinified as whole clusters. The grapes move by gravity into steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation lasts 25 days. Malolactic fermentation follows.

Ageing

The wine matures for 20 months in barriques, followed by another 18 months in bottle.

Technical data

Vintage 2022. Alto Adige DOC. Yield: 20 hl/ha. Alcohol: 14.5% vol. Total acidity: 5.9 g/L. Residual sugar: 0.1 g/L. Drinking window: 15–20 years.

Tasting profile

The colour is an intense ruby red. The aromatic profile combines ripe fruit, cherries and sour cherries with wild berries, raspberry and a light suggestion of marzipan. The palate is elegant, refined and expressive, with good acidity and spicy nuances. It has a well-defined structure and soft, balanced tannins.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 14–15 °C. Pair with red-meat main courses, roasts, game or mature cheeses.

Label / history

The project began in 2008 with a search for a site particularly suited to Pinot Noir. Years of trials with very small production volumes ultimately led to the selection of the Ganger monopole.
