Vineyard and terroir
The vineyard lies at approximately 420 m above sea level, on stony moraine and gravel soils containing small amounts of sand and clay. The vines average 25 years of age.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-October. Fermentation takes place in open wooden vats for two weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures in oak barriques for 12–14 months.

An unusually powerful Merlot for the region.
Label / history
The Niedrist winery was officially established in 1870. Ignaz Niedrist inherited the family vineyards and began bottling and selling the estate’s wines in 1989. Annual production totals 25,000–30,000 bottles.
