Vineyard and terroir
Several Sauvignon Blanc clones grow across different sites at elevations stated as 450–50 metres above sea level. The estate’s 5 ha of white-grape vineyards surround the winery and cellars on Rungg hill, at 500 metres above sea level; it has 8 ha of vineyards in total. At estate level, the traditional Pergola training system was replaced with the more labour-intensive Guyot system, resulting in lower yields.
Grapes
The wine combines several Sauvignon Blanc clones from different sites.
Vinification
The grapes ferment in stainless-steel tanks without malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine ages in stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
The 2010 vintage has lively aromas of gooseberry, herbs, blackcurrant bud and apricot. It is clean and fresh in varietal character, with taut, refreshing acidity and a very long finish.
Label / history
The winery was officially established in 1870. After inheriting the family vineyards, Ignaz Niedrist began bottling and selling wine in 1989. Annual estate production is 25,000–30,000 bottles. Gambero Rosso awarded the 2010 vintage its highest distinction, “Three Glasses.”
