Storia
Founding
Joaquin was founded in Montefalcione with the goal of championing Fiano, one of Campania's great wines. The winery began by carefully studying and selecting old, pre-phylloxera vineyards around Lapio and Montefalcione, an area regarded as the birthplace of the Fiano variety.
Development
The winery worked to capture the pure, distinctive character of Fiano, an expression it holds cannot be found in other regions, and later applied the same approach to other grape varieties. This shaped Joaquin's winemaking philosophy, summed up in its motto: "New vintage, new project," reflecting its approach to every new wine.
Capri
Raffaele Pagano, associated with Joaquin's wines, set out to make wines from local grape varieties grown on the best sites of Irpinia, Campania. He also fulfilled his ambition of reviving island winemaking on Capri, where the winery practises what it calls "triad viticulture": restoring local grape varieties, bringing small local vineyards back to life, and making wine.
Terroir
The winery is based in Montefalcione, in Irpinia, Campania. Its core vineyards lie around Lapio and Montefalcione, an area known as the birthplace of the Fiano variety, planted with old, pre-phylloxera vines. Joaquin also works vineyards on the island of Capri, where it revives small local plots.
Vinificazione
Joaquin's approach began with the careful study and selection of old, pre-phylloxera vineyards around Lapio and Montefalcione. On Capri, the winery practises "triad viticulture," which consists of restoring local grape varieties, bringing small local vineyards back to life, and making wine.
Raffaele Pagano's work in both the vineyard and the cellar is compared to that of a tailor in an atelier, aiming to let each terroir bring its true character to the wine as naturally as possible. The winery's motto, "New vintage, new project," reflects its approach of treating every new wine as a fresh undertaking.
Filosofia
Joaquin's philosophy is summed up in its motto, "New vintage, new project," reflecting the winery's approach to every new wine. The winery describes Raffaele Pagano's work in the vineyard and cellar as being like that of a tailor in an atelier, allowing each terroir to bring its true character to the wine as naturally as possible. On Capri, the winery follows what it calls "triad viticulture," combining the restoration of local grape varieties, the revival of small local vineyards, and winemaking itself.
