Storia
1999 — Origins\nFattoria Kappa began in 1999, when two friends, Stefan Klasmann, the Austrian editor-in-chief of "Format," and Manfred Klimek, a German professional journalist and photographer, were on holiday in Lignano discussing the sometimes questionable quality of expensive Italian wines. They decided that making high-quality yet affordable wine in Tuscany was an idea worth exploring.\n\n### Early development\nJust a few months later, they had the chance to put it into practice when a friend offered them a Tuscan vineyard to rent. They brought in young winemaker Andrea di Maio, who had spent many years working as a consultant for wineries in Tuscany and Friuli.\n\nFattoria Kappa first made wine from purchased grapes, then from a rented vineyard near the winery in Castellina Marittima, and eventually from its own 4-hectare plot near Volterra. All vineyard work follows biodynamic principles.
Terroir
Fattoria Kappa's own vineyard is a 4-hectare plot near Volterra, in Tuscany. The winery also used a rented vineyard near its winery in Castellina Marittima.

Filosofia
Though still a young winery, Fattoria Kappa states it has a clear aim: to make high-quality wine not just for the founders and their friends, but for people who genuinely appreciate good Italian wine. The founders hold that every wine should offer exceptional value while expressing what the terroir can give within local traditions.
