Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from a very small vineyard zone in Valdobbiadene, among the steepest hills of Santo Stefano and Saccol. Its amphitheatre-shaped terrain consists of marl, sandstone and clay. These conditions allow Glera to reach full maturity and develop an unusually high concentration of aromas.

The name Cartizze derives from the dialect word gardiz, the reed mat traditionally used for drying bunches of grapes.

Grapes

100% Glera. The grapes are harvested by hand from mid-September to mid-October, slightly later than usual.

Vinification

The grapes undergo soft pressing, and the must ferments without skins at controlled temperature. After clarification, secondary fermentation takes place by the Charmat method in closed, temperature-controlled steel pressure tanks for approximately 30 days. Bottle pressure is 4.5 atm.

Technical data

Alcohol: 11% vol. Residual sugar: 23 g/L. Available in 0.75 L bottles.

Tasting profile

Pale straw yellow with a fine, persistent perlage. The intense bouquet combines white fruit, apricot and peach with orange-blossom and rose nuances. The palate is sweet-fruited and soft while retaining the freshness associated with Prosecco Superiore; its gentle texture extends the aromatic persistence.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 8–10°C with refined desserts.

Label / history

Cartizze is the sub-denomination for this restricted area of Valdobbiadene. Its name comes from gardiz, the local term for the reed mat on which grape bunches were laid to dry.
