Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The wine was conceived for Friulano from vines that were 50 years old. Those vines subsequently became at least 15 years older.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September. Thirty per cent undergoes cold maceration for 48 hours, followed by fermentation in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 18–20 °C. The remaining grapes undergo malolactic fermentation after alcoholic fermentation. The components are blended and bottled in June of the following year.
Ageing
The wine matures on its lees in oak barrels for 10 months; the stainless-steel-fermented component also rests in tank.
Tasting profile
Characterful, powerful and complex, with notable richness and depth reminiscent of a red wine.
Label / history
Le Vigne di Zamò introduced the Vigne Cinquant’anni concept in the late 1990s for two wines: a Merlot red and this Friulano white. The name means “Fifty-Year-Old Vine” and was retained as the vines grew older.
