Vintage notes

In 2019, winter in Friuli-Venezia Giulia was dry and warm, bringing the vines out of dormancy early. Cold weather subsequently returned, accompanied by heavy rain and significant snowfall in the mountains. Changeable conditions and low temperatures continued through May, slowing the growing cycle; flowering occurred in early June. July and August were quite hot and occasionally scorching, with little rain, although nighttime temperatures fell. The grapes ultimately ripened well, while yields declined by approximately 20%.

Label / history

Dorino Livon founded the winery in the early 1960s after buying its first vineyards in the hills of Collio. His sons Valneo and Tonino joined him in the mid-1980s. The family subsequently redesigned the vineyard layouts and adopted short pruning, organic practices, high-density planting, native-plant integration and consistently low yields. Three large cellars were also built.

Between 1992 and 1997, the family acquired Villa Chiopris and Tenuta Roncalto in Friuli and Borgo Salcetino in Tuscany’s Chianti Classico area. The acquisition of "Fattoria Col santo" in Montefalco followed in 2001. Livon now encompasses more than 200 ha of vineyards and five brands, producing classic, Cru and Grand Cru wines.
