Vineyard and terroir
The base wines come from a single vintage. Grapes are selected and harvested by hand from the most suitable vineyards between the hills of Castelnuovo Magra and the Ligurian Sea, in areas at the foot of the Apuan Alps. Albarola contributes acidity and savouriness, while Vermentino supplies aromatic character and a distinct territorial imprint.
Grapes
Albarola and Vermentino.
Vinification
After gentle pressing in the absence of oxygen, the must ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The base wines remain on their fine lees for approximately eight months before tirage.
Ageing
The current specification gives more than 48 months of bottle ageing before disgorgement. The selected 2022 technical sheet describes approximately 26 months before disgorgement.
Technical data
Spumante Brut Metodo Classico Millesimato. The current wine page gives 13% alcohol by volume; the Italian 2022 technical sheet gives 14% vol.
Tasting profile
Straw yellow. The broad, fresh bouquet combines Mediterranean scrub and white-fleshed summer fruit with white pepper, sage, flint and a light brioche background. The palate is rich, with a pleasant mineral character and acidity balancing the creamy mousse. Fruit returns in the long finish.
Vintage notes
The inaugural 2018 vintage yielded approximately 5,000 bottles and spent at least 26 months on its lees before disgorgement. A 2019 vintage is also identified in later estate material.
Label / history
Cuvée Lunae grew from a multigenerational ambition to make a traditional-method sparkling wine from local varieties. The project presents another expression of the estate’s winemaking tradition and territory through the interaction of land, time, the moon and the tides.
