Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Niccolò V comes from carefully selected fruit grown in the Colli di Luni and Castelnuovo Magra area. Its three varieties reflect the meeting of different cultural and winemaking traditions in the Colli di Luni.
Grapes
Sangiovese, Merlot and Pollera Nera. Pollera Nera, an indigenous variety historically cultivated in the area, supplies freshness and character. Sangiovese contributes structure, energy and tannic definition, while Merlot brings softness and fruit.
Vinification
The wine remains on the skins for 12 days before racking.
Ageing
Ageing takes place for 12 months in 20 or 30 hl oak barrels, followed by six months in bottle. The fruit has the concentration required for this extended maturation, and the finished wine is presented as having significant capacity to evolve.
Technical data
Colli di Luni DOC Rosso. Alcohol: 13% vol.
Tasting profile
The wine is an intense ruby red. Cassis, plum and woodland berries are joined by clove, cinnamon, candied orange peel, cocoa and vanilla. The palate has silky tannins and an enveloping body, balanced by lively acidity. The finish is notably persistent, with lingering spice.
Label / history
The blend is conceived as an expression of the Colli di Luni as a meeting place where different cultures and traditions converge.
