Vineyard and terroir
Nektar comes from selected Vermentino vineyards in the municipalities of Luni and Castelnuovo Magra. The vines grow on slopes sheltered by the mountains and close to the sea. Each year, fruit is selected from the sites giving the best harvest.
Grapes
100% Vermentino.
Vinification
The bunches are selected and harvested by hand into 15 kg crates, then left to dry naturally for several months in ventilated rooms. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature. Approximately 60% of the must ferments and matures in steel tanks, while the remainder is handled in barriques.
Ageing
The concise technical specification describes 18 months in 20 hl oak barrels followed by another 18 months in bottle. The detailed production account instead describes maturation divided between steel and barriques and approximately one year of bottle ageing.
Technical data
Liguria di Levante I.G.T. Passito. Alcohol: 14% vol. Production is limited, although an exact bottle count is not given.
Tasting profile
Golden yellow with slight amber reflections. The nose shows clearly defined apricot and dried-fruit aromas, candied orange and agave syrup. An additional description brings floral and tropical-fruit notes together with sweet spices, honey, aromatic herbs and hawthorn. The palate is enveloping, soft and pleasantly sweet; acidity and savouriness maintain balance and agility through a persistent finish.
Label / history
The name evokes nectar, the mythical drink poured by Ganymede and served by Hebe to the gods of Olympus.
