Vineyard and terroir

Cerretta is a historic cru in Serralunga d’Alba and has been recognized as one of the territory’s important MGAs since 2015. The site has south and southeast exposures. Its marly, sandy soil contains limestone and is rich in iron, contributing power and layered character.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Summer green harvesting precedes an October harvest. The grapes are picked by hand into perforated 25 kg crates, selected again by hand on a vibrating table and softly pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with automated daily pump-overs and punch-downs. Skin contact lasts 12–16 days.

Ageing

After malolactic fermentation, the technical specification gives 36 months in 400-litre Allier French oak casks, followed by at least 6 months in bottle before release. The introductory account instead describes 30 months in French oak and 6 months in bottle.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14–14.5%.

Tasting profile

Intense ruby red with orange reflections. The broader aromatic profile combines red fruit, rose, violet, mint and rhubarb; the technical description emphasizes ethereal aromas, dried rose and a delicate woodland-floor note. The palate is austere, balanced and persistent, with firm tannins capable of supporting 15–20 years of bottle development.

Serving and pairing

Pair with red meat, game or aged cheeses.
