Vineyard and terroir
Arborina is a small Barolo Additional Geographical Mention in the hamlet of Annunziata, La Morra. This was the family’s first Barolo and is considered the clearest expression of the estate’s preference for finesse and elegance. The vineyards were planted in the early 1970s and in 1988 and are trained using the Guyot system.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
The wine macerates on its skins in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for 20–25 days. The process begins with 48 hours of cold maceration at 10°C. Extraction is deliberately gentle, with approximately two pump-overs each day. After racking, malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel.
Ageing
Around December, the wine is transferred to small oak barrels, of which 30% are new and 70% are used. It ages in oak for 24 months, then is decanted in stainless steel and bottled without fining or filtration.
Technical data
The wine has an intense ruby-red color with garnet hues. It is also available in magnum format.
Tasting profile
Fruit and freshness define the style, joined by ethereal finesse, marked elegance and moderate concentration. The bouquet is fine, intense and harmonious, offering small red fruits, black and red currants, followed by delicate spice. The palate is soft and refined, balancing alcohol and tannins. Minerality and good persistence lead into an elegant finish, while freshness and delicacy reflect its La Morra origin.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18°C. Its initial freshness can be enjoyed first, followed by the gradual evolution of the aromas as the wine warms in the glass.
Label / history
Arborina was the first Barolo made by the Veglio family—Mauro’s original Barolo—and remains the wine most closely associated with the estate’s style and identity. It is released with the capacity to evolve for many years, although it already shows approachability and a distinct personality.
