Vineyard and terroir
Rocche dell’Annunziata is a relatively uniform cru between La Morra and the hamlet of Annunziata, with predominantly southeast-facing slopes. A small estate parcel supplies the fruit for this Riserva. Crushed stone—the feature from which “Rocche” takes its name—provides effective drainage. The site produces concentrated yet balanced Barolo, combining La Morra’s characteristic elegance with complexity and structure, soft tannins and intense fruit aromas. The vines were planted in the 1980s and are trained to Guyot.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
The wine macerates on its skins for 20 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Extraction is gentle, supported by daily pump-overs. After racking, malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in barriques, of which 30% are new and 70% are second- and third-use. It is then decanted in stainless steel, bottled and aged for more than a further two and a half years.
Tasting profile
The color is intense ruby red with garnet hues. The penetrating, enveloping and highly aromatic bouquet places freshly cut flowers, hay and sweet spices ahead of the classic red-fruit notes. Austere and noble on the palate, it combines vigor and fullness with savoriness and minerality. The particular microclimate and terroir contribute notable complexity. Its softer, sweeter notes develop with time, enhancing complexity, drinkability and longevity.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18 °C. The gradual evolution of the aromas can be appreciated as the wine slowly warms in the glass. It is also available in magnum format.
