Vineyard and terroir
The name refers to the Tortonian deposits: limestone and marl soils of marine origin, rich in calcium, magnesium and manganese. These soils give the wines depth, subtle minerality and good structure. The vines grow in the Langhe.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested from 7 to 12 October 2021 in excellent condition, with a good balance of sugar and acidity. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel vats, followed by 15–18 days of skin maceration with gentle, periodic wetting of the cap at controlled temperatures of 27–31 °C. This allowed deep but careful extraction of aroma, colour and tannins.
Ageing
The wine was aged for 18–24 months in medium-sized oak casks, then further in bottle. This gives a full structure and complex spicy and toasted notes, and smooths the tannins, leaving the texture silky and composed.
Tasting profile
Refined, focused and layered. Fresh red berries and floral notes join dark spices and a delicate mineral touch. Elegant yet structured, with high acidity and firm tannins.
Serving and pairing
Decanting is recommended before serving. The text suggests autumn dishes: truffles, game, rich sauces and warming, deeply flavoured food.
Vintage notes
In 2021 the Langhe had a snowy winter, followed by changeable weather in spring and early summer. From June to September conditions were warm and dry but not extreme, with significant differences between day and night temperatures, which suited the slow, even ripening of tannins and aromatic compounds.
