Vineyard and terroir
The estate’s vineyards are in Bolgheri, near the Tuscan coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. They cover 97 ha and have a mild Mediterranean climate. Timely leaf removal and close attention to the vines helped the fruit reach harvest in flawless condition.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand when they reach optimal ripeness. Fruit from each vineyard is fermented separately, with production methods adapted to the character of the harvest.
Tasting profile
The wine has aromas and flavours of cherry, spice, chocolate and espresso, unfolding in a smooth, continuous sequence. It is balanced and elegant, with a long finish.
Vintage notes
The 2010 vintage was among the latest of recent years. Alternating warm and cool periods contributed freshness and aromatic character.
Label / history
The 2010 vintage marked Ornellaia’s 25th anniversary. For the Vendemmia d’Artista project it was named La Selebrazione, meaning “celebration”. Michelangelo Pistoletto created the anniversary label, drawing on the recurring theme of mirrors in his work. A three-dimensional carved spiral wraps around the bottle, representing an ongoing search for self-realisation and the expression of personal and spiritual aspirations.
The special label was used for a limited number of bottles, including 100 double magnums. Some were offered in charity-auction lots at Sotheby’s in London.
