Vineyard and terroir

Rialzi comes from the namesake vineyard at Tenuta Perano. Rising above the surrounding vineyards, it follows three natural terraces at elevations of 500 m and higher. The site has a south-west exposure and Alberese soils.

Grapes

Sangiovese. For the 2022 vintage, the grapes were gently picked by hand and subjected to a second rigorous selection on arrival at the cellar.

Vinification

Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Skin maceration and gentle pumping over promoted polyphenolic extraction.

Ageing

The wine matured for 36 months, including 24 months in barriques, followed by additional bottle ageing before release.

Tasting profile

Rialzi 2022 has an intense, vibrant ruby-red colour. Its broad, elegant bouquet opens with sour cherry and blackberry, followed by dog rose and tertiary nuances of coffee bean and tobacco. The palate is full-bodied, warm and dry, with soft, silky tannins and an exceptionally long, persistent finish.

Vintage notes

The 2022 winter was cold and rainy, with some morning frosts. Rising spring temperatures brought regular budding, while mild weather and well-timed rain supported extensive foliage. Flowering occurred from 5 to 7 June in sunny, warm conditions. Veraison began slightly early at the start of August; warm days were moderated by nighttime ventilation. Two mid-August rains punctuated the hot summer. The Sangiovese harvest began on 18 September, producing fruit with intense aromas and abundant tannins softened by the summer rainfall.

Label / history

The vineyard name refers to its position on three natural rises. The wine was conceived as the Gran Selezione expression of this elevated site at Tenuta Perano.
