Vineyard and terroir

Tenuta Perano Riserva originates in a natural, south-west-facing amphitheatre in the heart of Chianti Classico. The estate vineyards lie at 500 m above sea level in Gaiole in Chianti. Altitude, exposure and slope contribute to the grapes' elegance and expressiveness.

Grapes

Sangiovese and Merlot. The grapes are hand harvested and carefully selected.

Vinification

The selected fruit was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Frequent breaking of the cap encouraged polyphenolic extraction, building the colour and structure associated with Chianti Classico Riserva.

Ageing

Maturation lasted 24 months in oak barrels. A subsequent period in bottle further refined the wine before release.

Technical data

The 2022 vintage has 14% alcohol. Available formats are 0.75 L and Magnum.

Tasting profile

Tenuta Perano Riserva 2022 is an intense, vibrant ruby red. Blackcurrant, blueberry and sour cherry introduce the bouquet, followed by sweet violet. Clove and pepper emerge next, while leather and tobacco leaf form the tertiary register. The palate is fresh, dry and savoury, with substantial tannins. Red-berry flavours return on the palate and reinforce its freshness.

Vintage notes

The 2022 winter was cold and rainy. Regular budding followed the rise in spring temperatures, while mild conditions and well-timed showers supported a broad, complete leaf canopy. Flowering took place from 5 to 7 June under sunny, warm conditions. Veraison began a few days early at the start of August, helped by warm days and good nighttime ventilation. The hot summer was interrupted by two rains in mid-August. Harvest began with Sangiovese on 18 September; the fruit showed intense aromas and abundant tannins, softened by the summer rains.
