Vineyard and terroir

Tenuta Perano is produced from amphitheatre-shaped vineyards in Chianti Classico. The vineyard description places them at 500 m above sea level, with a south-south-west exposure. Their altitude, exposure, configuration and slope increase sunlight interception and concentrate warmth. The 2023 seasonal account describes the growing area more broadly as lying between 500 and 600 m.

Grapes

Sangiovese and complementary varieties. Exact proportions are not specified.

Vinification

The grapes were harvested by hand and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Skin maceration with measured, careful pumping over extracted polyphenols responsible for colour intensity and structure.

Ageing

Maturation lasted 12 months in barriques and stainless steel. The lots were aged separately, with the wood-matured portion developing delicate tertiary aromatic nuances. Further bottle ageing preceded release.

Technical data

The 2023 vintage has 14% alcohol. Available formats are 0.75 L and Magnum.

Tasting profile

Tenuta Perano 2023 is vibrant ruby red. The fruit-led bouquet centres on sour cherry and broader red- and black-berry notes, accompanied by floral aromas and finishing with black pepper and clove. It is smooth and fresh on the palate, with evident tannins that become more refined with time and a balanced relationship between flavour and aroma.

Vintage notes

Winter 2023 was cold and brought abundant rain but no snow. Spring thaw, replenished groundwater and rising temperatures allowed budding at the customary time for Chianti vineyards at this elevation. Mild spring weather promoted a broad, even canopy, while ventilation aided fruit set. Veraison occurred at the start of August amid warm days and well-ventilated nights. A hot but not excessive summer included rain in late August. The season produced intense aromas and abundant tannins with a soft, velvety character.
