Storia

2010 — Entry into Franciacorta

Plozza began producing in Franciacorta in 2010. This is the earliest date specifically associated with the Franciacorta operation.

2017 — Definition of the estate’s role within the group

A substantial internal reorganization created Plozza Wine Group as a structure comprising three distinct production operations. Classic-method sparkling-wine production was entrusted to Plozza Ome Franciacorta, while Plozza Vini Tirano remained responsible for Valtellina wines and Cottinelli Weinbau Malans for wines from the Bündner Herrschaft and the Graubünden Rhine Valley.

The reorganization established Plozza Ome Franciacorta as the group’s dedicated Franciacorta producer rather than an extension of the Valtellina winery.

Harvesting is carried out by hand. The grapes are collected in small crates and subjected to careful manual selection before vinification. Optimal harvest conditions are treated as essential to obtaining suitable sparkling-wine base wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Plozza Ome Franciacorta specializes in sparkling wines made by the classic method. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are vinified as base wines, either separately or for subsequent blending according to the intended cuvée.

The production sequence begins with hand-picked, hand-sorted fruit. Stainless-steel tanks are used across the range. Selected vintage and reserve lots also undergo maturation in French-oak barriques before secondary fermentation.

Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle, followed by extended maturation on the lees. The length of lees ageing varies substantially across the range, progressing from the multi-vintage wines to prolonged maturation for the vintage and reserve expressions. The Millesimato is deliberately left undosed so that the individual vintage can retain a pure expression. The Riserva is likewise disgorged without the addition of liqueur and is produced only in small quantities from selected Pinot Noir harvested in the best years.

Filosofia

Plozza Ome Franciacorta’s assigned role within Plozza Wine Group is the production of classic-method sparkling wines. The three production operations share a stated commitment to quality and a recognizable stylistic identity while remaining tied to their distinct territories.

The Franciacorta range combines careful grape selection with prolonged lees maturation. Its vintage philosophy is most explicit in the Millesimato, where the absence of dosage is intended to preserve the purest and most faithful expression of each harvest. The Riserva extends this selective approach: it is made in limited quantities, only in the best vintages, and receives particularly long maturation before disgorgement without added liqueur.
