Vineyard and terroir

The estate vineyards lie on Valtellina’s steep mountain slopes, where centuries-old terraces are supported by dry-stone walls. Placed end to end, the walls would extend for 2,500 km. The area has a Mediterranean-influenced climate, and its terraced landscape is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status.

Grapes

Nebbiolo is known locally as Chiavennasca.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand at optimal ripeness. They undergo two days of cold maceration, followed by five days of skin-contact fermentation in stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

The wine matures for 48 months in a 10,000-litre chestnut barrel.

Tasting profile

Approachable, fruity and elegant.

Label / history

The wine is a limited edition. Its name refers to the chestnut barrel used for ageing, which also inspired the label: a thin sheet of wood is incorporated into the bottle design.
